Welcome to Potter Hill Folks, my website for items of genealogical and general historical information about one of my ancestral homes.  Potter Hill used to be small farming neighborhood in Taylor Township, Cortland County, NY.  In the 1930's most of the land was purchased by the state under the Hewitt Reforestation Bill.  Residents were relocated, houses and barns were removed and trees were planted.  Today there are still some reminders of the past - a small cemetery dating back to the 1820's and a few steps and foundation stones where buildings once stood.  This website is dedicated to the spirit of Potter Hill and the people who lived there.  You will also find a lot more information covering other parts of Cortland county and the immediate surroundings.

Most of the material presented here is original, meaning that it includes images and / or transcriptions of documents that have been passed down through my family over many years, or in some cases my interpretation of family relationships and history.

I hope that you find something useful here, either because it helps you find your own roots, or because it is just interesting.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions, feedback or just want to compare notes about our Potter Hill Folks.
